Someone brought us glow sticks (which were somehow still working from NSO) and we had fun cheering with those. Honestly, there wasn't a big crowd out to watch the games. It was disappointing because powderpuff was a big deal in my town. But my friends and I enjoyed watching the games.

Powderpuff
I went with my friends Maddy, Felicia and Kylea to watch the powderpuff games during homecoming week. It was a pretty cool deal. It was kind of dark because the light people flaked out, so by the end we could hardly tell what was going on. I'm pretty sure the Juniors won the game we watched. It was still a great time, and definitely fun to watch.
Vanessa Hartsell at GC
Vanessa Hartsell- Guest Speaker
Vanessa, Evan, and Owen Hartsell came to Greenville College to share the good news of our Lord, Jesus! I went to chapel on Friday September 19, 2014 with a few of my friends and got to listen to Vanessa share a little bit of her story. She spoke about her ministry and what she does in Las Vegas. Hartsell has worked in jails, with prostitutes, young kids and many other people who do not believe in God. It was very interesting listening to her tell stories of visiting these places and how God opens doors and makes all things possible. She was able to make the audience laugh and seemed to relate to us well which was good because it made this event very relaxed. I expected the chapel service to go like it did because I had also heard her speak at a woman's conference, bible study and another chapel that week. I purchased her book, "Soul Singing" and have enjoyed reading her words. She is an amazing, inspirational woman and I am so blessed that the Hartsell family came to Greenville. If I ever had to chance to listen to her again I would. She has been one of my favorite guest speakers GC has had yet!

Art Walk
Art Walk- Art Show
I went to the Art Walk on September 19, 2014 with a few of my good friends. At first I was not really wanting to go to the Art Walk because I'm not really into looking at art. Little did I know that I was wrong, I had an amazing time. Meredith, Allyson, Lindsay and I all got a picture next to the chalk drawing in the middle of the street. The drawing was of an older man and woman and in the mans hand was a pitch fork. It was the first picture that we saw and I couldn't believe it. There was so many different ways that people expressed there talents either by painting, drawing, making crafts or clothes, or baking, it was all very fascinating. While I was there I purchased a black chevron scarf that a lady made by hand. We stayed for about an hour and the entire time we walked around admiring everyones work. This was the first time my friends and I had gone out and done something out of the "College" and it was a lot of fun. I can't wait to go back to the Art Walk next year and see the new things that peoplemade. It was a great experience and I am a lot more open to art now!

Art Experience
Art Walk:
The Art Walk was in the town of Greenville, IL. Some of the
exhibits happened on Greenville’s campus in the gallery of the Maves art
building while other exhibits were held in downtown Greenville.
The event took place on the weekend of September 19-20. I
attended the event on Friday night, September 19.
I attended the event with Laura Mullen and Ryan Strohm.
When my friends and I arrived at the Art Walk, it just got
started. The venders were set up and ready to sell all the art they worked hard
making. Laura and I took a picture with a man’s piece of art. The picture that
he made was a painting. The geographic shapes and bright colors of the work
intrigued us, so we asked if we could take a photo of it. While people were
looking and buying the art, there was great music playing on the square. The
Greenville College band was playing a swing song and there was a couple dancing
in the street to the music. We smelled the different scents of all the food
that was being freshly made. Some of the food that we were tempted to buy were
the freshly baked cookies and pastries. We could tell that everyone that
participated in the event had been planning it for a long time. It was well
organized and the people seemed to be enjoying themselves. Since it was my first
time experiencing the art walk, I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere
and would go back next year to see the new art that is presented.
Music Experience
Black Room Performance:
The event was for Tyler Wright’s album release. The name of
the album is Light of Love. He
performed at the Black Room on campus.
The performance was on Thursday night, September 16, 2014.
I attended the performance with Laura Mullen, Ryan Strohm,
Josh Wheeler, and Mike Hardin.
I got to the performance early with my friends because they
were expecting a big crowd for the album release. They were right. Since we got
there before the big crowd came in, we got a pretty good spot to watch the
show. When the show started, the crowd began to calm down and really focus on
the music. There was an opening performance by a Greenville College alum. She
was a really good singer and had very good stage presence. It set the mood for
what was to come. When Tyler and his band came to the stage, the crowd got even
more excited. This was a much anticipated performance. The performance was
great! I didn’t know much about Tyler and his music before I came, but I came
out with a new perspective on things. Tyler is very faithful and loves the
Lord. He shows this through his music. His outlook on life is one to be
admired. He knows how to make you seem like an individual even though he is
speaking to a crowd. I like how he uses music to show his testimony. It impacts
his music in a positive way.

Art Walk
On September 19th I went on the Art Walk in the square. I managed to drag along my visiting dad and brother, Tucker.
We had a pretty great time. The atmosphere at the walk was similar to how my town feels during our Pumpkin Fest. The whole town comes out to see different booths, there's music throughout the whole place, and a variety of different foods to try. My dad loves kettle corn, so he was thrilled that they had it there and ended up buying three bags of it. He also spoiled Tucker and I with some lemonade before we left. I introduced the boys to my friends as we explored the different areas. They're both kind of shy, so it was a little awkward around people sometimes. But aside from that, we all had fun looking at the different tables. I made sure to stop by the Set Free booth, and bought a bracelet for my friend.
All in all, it was a really cool event. It was one of my first opportunities to see the Greenville community come together. And the fun experience was made even better by having my dad and brother there with me.
The even was a lot of fun and it was so great to see all the different ages of folks who decided to run in it. But, because I am broke, I did not actually pay for the event. Instead, I simply got in at the beginning and hopped out at the end. It was very hard and I almost threw up at the end but it was so fun to be able to run with my friends and share in that experience our freshman year of college. It made me feel healthy and ready for the day. Fall is the most beautiful time of year to have this event, no doubt!
Midnight Madness
On October 14 my friends and I attended the Midnight Madness thing. We (Katie, Brooke, Jessica, and I) went and got in line early in order to receive the free t-shirts given to the first 50 people. We were the first 5! It started at 9:30pm and went till 12am at the gym.
This event was to celebrate the kickoff of the basketball season and was a great way to bring the student body into union. It showed off all of the women and men's basketball teams, the dance team, and the cheerleaders. There were also events that the audience and students could participate in such as race games and knock-out. All of the activities were super fun and my friends and I had a lot of laughs singing along with the songs and playing in the activities, cheating everyone on. The t-shirts definitely made it all very worth while and I wouldn't mind if there were to be more envenoms like that one. The atmosphere was really crazy and you could just tell that everyone was excited for season to start as well as to be there, in that gym, celebrating it together!

Art Walk
In
September I attended the art walk in town.
I believe it was September 19th. In my picture I am holding one of the
earrings that I bought for my sister at one of the stands. My sister, Grace, is very crafty and
creative, so I knew she would like to have something from there. I sent them in the mail because she also
likes to receive mail. The event went on
for most of the evening, but I stayed for about an hour. I attended the art walk with my boyfriend who
is in the picture with me. The
environment just seemed friendly to me.
I really liked the feel of it because it felt like my home town. The event was interesting to me. It was a little bit different than I
expected, because I did not know that there would be crafts. I thought it would only be works of art. I did enjoy it. I liked the jewelry and there was not
anything that I did not enjoy about it.
I would definitely attend another art walk.
Majors Fair
I attended the 2014 Greenville College Majors Fair on Friday, October 17. Most of the freshmen attended the Majors Fair but I went with Brittni Bell.
Instead of going to Chapel on Friday, the faculty set up a Majors Fair in the Rec Center for all of the freshmen during that time. This event was set up so that the freshmen could meet with faculty/advisers in their field of choice and get their questions answered. You could also officially declare or change you major/minor here. I really enjoyed going to the Majors Fair because it answered a lot of my questions. I wasn't sure what to expect and I didn't really want to go, but I'm glad I did. While I was there, I had to have at least 3 sections of a packet filled out and signed by professors and I was able to get donuts, hot chocolate, and a free t-shirt. When I first heard about the event, I didn't really know what it was, so I didn't want to go. But lately, I have been questioning my declared major and I have decided that I want to change my career. Going to the Majors Fair, I was able to talk to professors about what my career option choices could be. The only thing that I would have changed was the time. I didn't have enough time to get all of my questions answered because I had another class to get to. I really enjoyed this event and I if they had another one, I would love to go because I found this one very helpful.

First Improv Show
I attended my first improv show towards the beginning of the school year in either August or September. The event took place at LaDue Auditorium. The doors opened at nine and the show started at 9:30 pm. I attended this event with my best friend Lauren Buser. This was also her first time attending an improv show. The environment was really laid back and pretty relaxed. The show was really exciting and funny. My friend was making fun of me because I was having a hard time following some of it sometimes. I had a great time and enjoyed how funny it was. I did not completely enjoy how long it lasted. I am just not much of an evening person, so I got sleepy towards the end. I will definitely be attending more improv shows. Actually, I have been to one since then and liked it just as much.
Black Room Performance (Concert)
At 8:00 p.m. on September 30, 2014 I went to the black room to watch Josh Phipps, a member on the cross-country team and his band perform. I attended the event with Lia Kruse, Jordie File, and some other cross-country teammates.
Josh Phipps and his band performed in the Black Room on a Tuesday night after classes. The environment was really fun and relaxed. It was completely dark, except for the bright spotlight that pointed on the stage. I didn't really know what to expect, I had never listened to Josh or his band perform before. Once I entered the Black Room, It was to my surprise that Phipps was the lead singer. I had known Phipps for two months prior to the event and never would have guessed that he could sing that well. He is a really gifted singer and an amazing performer. However, I only knew Phipps as a runner and only saw the cross-country side of him. His amazing voice and ability to perform on stage, made me realize how we might think we know someone but in actuality we do not. I am really glad I went to this event because I got to see a whole other side of one of my teammates that night. I definitely plan to go back to the Black Room for another performance sometime.

Baseball Game
On October 17th, I went to the Greenville College Fall baseball game at 7 pm. I went with Taylor Paulin, Claire Schmitt, Allyson Mitchell, and Coley Baker.
I attended my first baseball game at Greenville College on a beautiful fall, Friday night. It was on our own field and it was just a scrimmage between our boys. The weather was perfect and it was so much fun spending the night in the stands with some of my favorite girls. Even though it was just a scrimmage between our boys and it wasn't too important, it was still a great night to watch some baseball. Though it wasn't a real, officiated game, the boys played like it was. Going to watch the scrimmage, I wasn't sure what to expect. I mean, this was my first college baseball game. But going with my friends and watching all the guys I have met here at Greenville was a great experience. Baseball is my least favorite sport to watch for the simple fact that it is such a slow game. But when I got there, I was glad I went. The boys played competitively against each other but also cheered one another on. Attending the baseball game was a great way to start off my weekend with some awesome girls. I enjoyed watching the game, and I definitely plan on watching many more games.

Soccer Game
I attended the Greenville College Boy's Soccer game with my friend Jordie File on October, 25 2014. They played Iowa Wesleyan, who was very low on players.
The game started at 4:00 on a beautiful fall day. The weather was extremely nice and comfortable. It reached 83 degrees that day. I was able to watch the game in a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. To make this game even better the boy's soccer team won 8-0. The game was very fun to watch, I enjoyed the warm and casual atmosphere. I also enjoyed all the excitement when we scored the first goal. The crowed roared and music was played. My high school doesn't have a soccer team and I had never really watched a soccer game, so I had never experienced this kind of excitement before. Because of this whole experience, I was able to learn a lot about the sport. It was a lot of fun to watch, even though Iowa Wesleyan only had eight players on their whole team verses Greenville's eleven on the field and more on the bench. Despite this, the Iowa Wesleyan team members still came out on the field with good attitudes and made it an entertaining competition. Both teams showed good sportsmanship throughout the entire game. However, the game ended early at 5:45 because of Greenvilles' staggering lead of 8 to nothing. At the end of the game both teams huddled together and prayed as one big group. This was really neat to watch and took sportsmanship to whole new level.
Baseball Game
I attended a Greenville college fall baseball game with my
friends Ashlyn Collingwood and Brittni Bell. The event was held at the
Greenville College baseball field on October 10, 2014.
The baseball game was a calm place to be with anticipation
building in the air. The crisp winter air was sending chills to everyone’s
bones as the glaring sun began to hide away and everyone began to cover in
their warm blankets. The baseball team only played against each other so you
could feel the confliction as people would try to cheer and were not sure of
which team they wanted to win. There were loud bursts of cheering whenever a
player did something good or scored. The event was like any regular baseball
game and went as I expected. I am not a huge fan of the sport baseball, but I
do enjoy cheering on people and supporting them in their activities. If the
baseball team has a game again, I would go if I had friends that would attend
with me, but I don’t think I would attend on my own.
Art Walk
I went to the Art Walk which took place on September 19th
in Greenville. I went with my friend Laura Mullen.
The environment of the Art Walk was quite different then
what I expected. I thought it would be a place that felt like stepping into a
different world or almost magical because of all of the art. Instead when we
got there the place was mostly filled with people running around getting food.
It smelled like pizza, popcorn, and funnel cakes. It was a very welcoming place
with lots of families and friends laughing and talking. There were lots of
tents everywhere and people were enjoying weaving in and out of tents. It was a
very busy and upbeat night in Greenville. I did enjoyed seeing all of the
different things people created by their imagination that the Lord gave them.
There was so much beauty in the art or even simple crafts that people made. I would
attend it if the Art Walk is in Greenville again next year, but I don't believe I would travel to if an event like it.
Art Show- Art Walk
Art Walk
September 19, 2014 in the square of downtown Greenville.
I attended the Art walk with my friends from the GC women's basketball team.
As we were walking to the art show in the town we noticed the environment was a lot of smoking and beer. A lot of families were there with children and dogs. As you walked around there were many different booths of different art work or clothing items that were for sale. I thought the event was interesting. I've never really been an art person, but it was very fastening to see all the pictures the artists have made. The event was different than I expected. I thought it was only going to be art, but there were a lot of other booths such as: clothing, candles, purses, and food. I enjoyed the event. It was something fun to do a little off campus and something all my friends had fun doing. We took a lot of goofy pictures by the art work and just had quality time together. I would go to another event like this.
Here is a picture of me purchasing a headband at a booth. This couple owned this booth and this is their three week old baby girl. She was precious and I kept going back to their booth to see her.

Guess Lecturer-Vanessa Hartsell
Guess Lecturer -Vanessa Hartsell
September 19, 2014 at chapel. I attended chapel with my roommate Brittni bell and my friends Claire Schmitt, Coley Baker, and Laura Goodnight.
Chapel every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday can become a little repetitive. When I heard that Vanessa Hartsell was going to speak at chapel the week of September 15-19th I was extremely excited to attend. Vanessa is a motivational speaker who attended Spring Arbor University in Michigan. Vanessa has a husband Even and a son Owen Hartsell and they currently live in Las Vegas, Nevada. She travels the country sharing her story and love for Jesus. She is such a kind hearted women and is very easy to talk to. Chapel was the same environment as normal. although, the students seemed more interested because she talked about something we all can relate to: love. The chapel service was exciting and enjoyable. She left us with her story that I wont ever forget. This chapel was beyond what I expected. I absolutely loved it and I would love to attend one of her conferences.
Here is a picture of Vanessa and I. I am holding a chapel credit card showing that this was taken in chapel.
